Suus Kooijman

The works of Suus are mainly made of beeswax. She builds it up layer by layer. She does not immediately have an image in her head of how things are going to work, but she works from her feeling and lets the work develop organically. This way she continues to surprise not only herself but also the viewer. She puts it on a block of wood that is itself layered again. Her work is coated so it is impact resistant, the work can also be hung in the sun. The warm beeswax, the pigments, and the layers build up to a performance of which Suus himself often does not know where it will go. It sometimes takes some time until the performance shows up. Everything hides in a background that, when she scrapes the layers, brings out a picture. Does a landscape, a field, a human appear? Suus works through the layers and is amazed again and again.
